Heritage Interpreters
The East Coulee School Museum is hiring seasonal Heritage Interpreters.

Our Museum is a historic school building full of charm and rich with history. We preserve and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the coal miners and their families. We share stories and artifacts with our visitors to enrich their understanding of an important part of Canadian Heritage.

Our Heritage Interpreters deliver a variety of public programs, including Guided Tours, our 1930’s style classroom program, etc. They also provide customer service by assisting in the Tea Room, Gift Shop, and at the Admissions Desk. Responsibilities are diverse; duties sometimes involve prolonged walking, standing, and sitting. All staff are expected to complete varied tasks and contribute to the team efforts. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and caring work environment while creating exceptional experiences for visitors.
We are searching for positive & enthusiastic individuals with great communication skills and a love of learning. We are looking for post-secondary students that are returning to school in the fall. A background in museum studies, education, performing arts, archaeology, geology, anthropology, sociology, history, or tourism is preferred. Be sure to highlight any relevant work experience you have in customer service, working with children or families, food service, communications or performance.
Reliable transportation is essential as we are located 15 minutes outside of downtown Drumheller.
Job Term – approx. May 1 to Sept 4, 2024
Work Hours: 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, 5 days per week on a rotating schedule.
Wage: $19.00/ hour

East Coulee is a part of the Town of Drumheller, AB. We are located in the Canadian Badlands. There are many attractions and outdoor recreation opportunities within the Valley. Drumheller has all amenities, and is located only an hour away from a major shopping mall, 3 hours from the Rocky Mountains, and 1.5 hours from Calgary. Please note that a driver’s license and reliable vehicle are important as we are located 15 minutes outside of downtown Drumheller and there is no public transit.

All applicants will need to be eligible for the Young Canada Works (YCW) student job program and be available for the entire contract period (May to August, and preferably through the September holiday weekend). Be prepared to work all weekends in July & August.
NOTE: This position is funded by Young Canada Works, and successful candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements of the YCW program and be:
Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have refugee status;
Legally able to work in Canada;
Between 16 and 30 years of age at the beginning of placement;
Willing to commit to the entire term of placement;
Not have another full-time job during the YCW placement;
Registered in the YCW online candidate inventory;
Registered as a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW job;
Planning to return to full-time studies in the semester immediately following the YCW term.
